great set!, August 28, 2005

these are a beautiful dark blue…no chalky blue here!!! they are not as black blue as the picture though. they are large and won’t fit in standard cabinetry….so you will have to find a place for them….. great quality! i saw them at walmart for more!!! i got 25.00 off an entire order of 125.00 and free shipping..which is 20% off….. you won’t be sorry…..they mix and match great with the other colors in their collection! they are a heavy weight. i purchased the red with these to mix and match…the red on the picture is not the red on the dishes they are a chalky red..almost mauvey red…..i love bright red..so that was a bit of a bum…but they look great alone or with the blue!!!

Large and Unique, January 20, 2006

I liked the square shape of this set and I liked that they are large in comparison to other dinnerware. I have some family members who do not like it if different food items touch, so this works out wonderfully. Also, for those wanting a full plate of food, there is plenty of room. The bowls are larger than other bowls we have used, which I like. When we used the salad plates under hot bowls, the bowls stayed firmly in place instead of sliding around. I did have to get used to drinking from the mugs (cups) as they have straight sides instead of being rounded, but they too hold a good amount of whatever you choose to put in them. I did measure my dishwasher before ordering to be sure the plates clear the wand because another review I read said the plates were too large for the purchaser’s dishwasher. They cleared the wand in my dishwasher fine. I like these dishes because they are different. Two bowls were broken upon intital shipment. I contacted the manufacturer and they immediately sent out replacements.

Striking Dinnerware!!, March 1, 2006

I can hardly believe it…I ordered these handsome dishes on Monday & they were delivered to my door in just 2 days! The color is more burgundy than the orange-red one associates with a “chili” color, but they are beautiful. They are large & colorful…exactly what I wanted. I LOVE the square shape. I ordered 3 sets & each set was packaged separately & shipped, beautifully packed & arrived with not even one piece chipped! This is my second set of casual dinnerware, very different from my Sango. They’re both perfect for casual entertaining with each setting a very different table with a different mood. I’m quite looking forward to using my new red Dinnerware at my next fun gathering!

Awesome dishes, October 17, 2005

I recently purchased the Corelle Hearthstone Stoneware Indigo Blue Square 16-piece Set and love them. I was looking for dishes that were unique and that were big. I have to say that these dishes are both. I love the square plates, the size of the square bowls and the unique square cups. My favorite color is blue and my husband likes black, so to find dishes that were both colors was a plus. The shipping on these dishes was good - nothing broken. I purchased two sets of these dishes and did discover that the bowls in one of the sets did not have the protective coating on the outside of the bowls like the other dishes had. I contacted the manufacturer immediately and was quite pleased with their customer service. They sent me a new set of bowls completely free and told me to keep the other bowls. In less than two weeks, I had my replacement bowls. In a world of lousy customer service, I must admit that these folks are great. Overall, these dishes are beautiful, sturdy, and a set that I would recommend to anyone.

Functional with a Wow Factor, December 30, 2005

These plates were impressive in the picture and even more so when I unpacked them. WOW factor they have. The look, feel and larger than normal plates and bowls are wonderful. These fit fine in my dishwasher and cupboards but I chose to place them on my bakers rack for use and display and compliments on this set happen everytime someone sees them. I love the square instead of round and it ties in beautifully to my modern/comtemporary kitchen. I purchased on a Friday Sale for $25 and had free shipping to boot. Should have ordered two sets. I highly recommend this set. You won’t be disappointed.

Not as bright blue as shown on the box, but still gets compliments!, October 31, 2007

The photo here shows the indigo blue as a bright blue, and the box shows it this way too, although a little more on the deep purple side. However, the dishes are really a dark blue. Just….. dark blue, an indigo dark blue. Kinda wish I’d gotten chili red for more bright color on my dining table in that regard. HOWEVER, indigo blue is still a beautiful color, and I get tons of compliments on how cool these dishes are. Even my mom looked at these dishes with envy! I have four sets for a total of service for 16, all arrived in perfect shape, and I’ve used these for 10 months solid, daily use and family gatherings, and there’s not a ding or chip to be found, and I simply treat them like normal everyday dishes…. I’m kinda clumsy, too, and they’ve survived. I don’t have a problem fitting even the large plates in my dishwasher, and they fit in my turntable microwave, too. For storage, I did have to put the large plates in a different, deep cupboard to get them to fit. No worries. Really, hubby and I use the smaller plates all the time, either because we have smaller portions, or my veggie will be in a bowl so I won’t need as much plate room for my meal. I only use the large plates for waffles and for when company comes over, because they’ll probably need more plate room for a full meal. Something to note, my mother-in-law doesn’t like these dishes, and not just because *I* picked them out, either! She has arthritis, and it apparently hurts to pick up or hold these dishes. I’ll be getting a couple regular lightweight Corelle dishes for her & dad-in-law to use when they visit. So, I wouldn’t get these dishes as a gift for your arthritis-suffering friends.

Fantastic!, March 22, 2006

The most important thing I need to say is that I read the reviews and therefore I looked out for everything that was said. I made my decision based upon the reviews - so reviews are VALUABLE. I got the red and black set, and yes they are heavy, but they are also strong, durable and impressive. The dishes are so beautiful in their chili cover and square shape, that any food put on them just looks 10 times better. They do fit in my dishwasher and they don’t get chipped, or lose their color. The gloss is unbelievable. I will be ordering a second color set or accessories (serving items) as soon as I get a chance. This set is in another class from china, lenox, waterford or corelle. It is like eating at a Mexican spa. Thank you.

Corelleware, November 4, 2005

The Corelle Hearthstone set is exactly what is stated. It is STONEWARE. One of the reviewers downgrades this set when she didn’t even buy, just looked at it somewhere. That is not a review, just a gripe because this set is heavier than regular Corelle. Don’t we all know that from the description? It is good to know that the dinner plates are larger than normal and probably won’t fit in the average cupboard. Okay, buy one of those wooden drying racks and keep them out on the counter. There are trade-offs with this set, but I believe the positives far outweigh the negatives. I like the heft and size of the pieces and enjoy the distinctive look. Knowing this beforehand, I am certainly not disappointed and would highly recommend this set if you are looking for settings that reflect the choice of food being served, your personality, or just having something that is unique and to your taste.

Terrible experience with Amazon and Corelle, December 28, 2007

I purchased this set about six months ago. I was in the process of a kitchen makeover and did not take them out of the Amazon box due to this taking longer than expected. I did take out the mugs to use and was handwashing them. I used them for approximately one month, when I noticed a huge chunk out of the side of one of the mugs. I then noticed small chips around the rim of two of the other mugs. I contacted Corelle, who told me that I could do nothing, since I did not register the product within 30 days. I told them, I had not even taken them out of the shipping box. Again,they said nothing could be done. I contacted Amazon and told them it clearly stated on their website, that there is a one year chip warranty. I let them know that nowhere does it state it must be done within a certain time period. They told me I must deal with the manufacturer. So, here I am, stuck with a set of mugs that are badly chipped, and a set of plates which I’m sure will be in that condition shortly. This was my first experience with Corelle, and it will certainly be my last. I would strongly NOT recommend this set.

Had to return it., November 4, 2006

I’m surprised you requested this review because I returned the item. They were just what I wanted, color and all, but when I tried to put the dinner plates in the dishwasher they only fit if I placed them using two spaces. This reduced the dishwasher capacity. Next problem surfaced when the same dinner dishes didn’t fit in my standard sized kitchen cabinet.

Not the quality expected , March 8, 2006

I have used Corelle Livingware (the chip and break resistant sets) before and have always been very fond of them. When it was time to buy some new things for the kitchen, we decided to try the Corelle Hearthstone in indigo blue. It wasn’t the best decision. First of all, we noticed that the finish wasn’t matt as it looked like in the pictures. Instead, it’s a glossy finish - which gives it a very different look. It was acceptable though. Then it turned out that the dinner plates are too big to fit in a standard dishwasher. That was an unpleasant surprise but we thought it would be okay to wash those by hand. Unfortunately, the whole set turned out to be not dishwasher safe and very impractical. After just being gently used and washed 2 or 3 times, the blue paint was scratched and the black paint even started to come off. This set wasn’t worth the money. It is not something to be used every day. If you want to look at it most of the time, just use it for special occasions and then hand wash it, it might be okay for you. But don’t buy it if you want to use it as an every day set for your family. You will have to wash it by hand and still have scratches just from using silverware. It is not the quality I had expected from Corelle and I wouldn’t buy it again.

Loved everything except its size and weight, April 15, 2008

I saw these dishes in Wal-Mart in another color and ordered them from here in the color (turmeric Yellow) that I liked for even less money than at Wal-Mart. I received them quickly and loved the color and the way they looked. However, I returned them when I realized how big they were. The dinner plate fit in my microwave, but it was so big that it wouldn’t allow the plate to turn while cooking. They wouldn’t fit in my dishwasher on one side either–too tall. The bowls were so big that they were really heavy to hold while eating–like on the couch with a bowl of ice cream. They were all pretty heavy and I felt like I would have to be careful of which cupboard I stored them in. I also couldn’t get all the bowls in the usual spot I keep them, because only 2 stacks instead of 3 or 4 would fit. I’m still looking for dishes as pretty as these are. Hope someone can find room for them, because they are beautiful and seem like great quality.

Awkward and Strange, June 7, 2008

As others have mentioned, these are ultra heavy and large. The Indigo set is more of a royal purple, and has a lot of matte black on the outsides and undersides of plates and bowls. I ordered the “modern square” version, and the photos do not show how the plate edges are swooped and wavy. I can’t get the 4 dinner plates to stack neatly. The rims of the mugs are thick and designed with a round interior stuck into a rectangular exterior, which makes for an awkward coffee drinking experience. Even for the bargain price ($48.95) and free Amazon Prime shipping, I can’t live with these dishes. I would have given one star, but Amazon’s customer service and fast shipping bumped it up to two.
