5.0 out of 5 stars Amazon description is incorrect.
  • I was confused by reading Amazon’s product description because it did not state that this set is part of the Corelle Ultra line, so I called Corelle. You can also read more about the Corelle Ultra line at corelle.com The product description states this is stoneware. This set is NOT stoneware. This set IS part of their ULTRA line. It is thicker than traditional Corelle and has three layers of “glass” finish over the outside giving it a beautiful shine as compared to one coat on traditional Corelle.
  • At this writing, there are only stoneware serving pieces available in this pattern. Unfortunately, there are no additional plate or bowl sizes in the Ultra Scandia White material either. So, if you want fruit bowls, pasta bowls or any additional plate sizes, they just aren’t available–yet. :)
  • There are some additional pieces in the square shape in the thinner Pure White Corelle pattern that have been released in the past two weeks that may coordinate if you don’t care for stoneware and don’t mind the thinner material. They aren’t listed on the Corelle site yet, but the rep I spoke to told me they have been announced and they are coming. The mug in this set is porcelain, but I was told by the Corelle rep when I called them, 1-800-999-3436, that this mug is of a higher quality than the mugs included in the less expensive sets.
  • I asked the Corelle rep which set she preferred between this square set and the Pure White square set. She said she owns BOTH, but thinks the Scandia White set is MUCH more elegant with the raised ribbed design on the edges. She is planning to give her Pure White set away. She said she has the Scandia White set stashed in her closet for the holidays. The Ultra Scandia White set has a better product warranty than the Pure White.None of the Ultra line come with a sandstone base–all come in white. While I don’t own this product yet, I thought this info may prove helpful to other Amazon shoppers in making a purchase decision.
  • Update 9-12-2007: I visited our local Walmart to see what they had in their Corelle dishes. They carry three of the square plates in the Ultra line (Not Scandia White) as well as the square Pure White dishes in their regular Corelle material. The Pure White and Ultra sets had the same size and shape with the exception of the Ultra being a hair thicker and with a glossier finish. The Scandia set is different because it uses a different mold with a design on the border.
  • WOW! The Ultra line is VERY nice! The other amazing thing is that BOTH the square Pure White (regular Corelle) and the Ultra line square dinnerware sets were all priced the same at $49.95 per 16 piece set. The design on the Ultra is still applied over the top of the glaze like it is on the traditional Corelle and appears to be subject to scratching off like the traditional Corelle. I love the feel of the Ultra and like the higher shine/smoother finish.
  • I was shopping for a wedding gift. Now, I am a woman on a mission seeking to find the Scandia White set locally. Not only do I have this set in my sights as a wedding gift, but I think it may be time to replace my old Corelle with the Scandia White.
  • I also discovered when looking at the Ultra boxes at Walmart (not marked Ultra) that the warranty printed on the box is three years. I was told five years by the Corelle rep so perhaps the warranty has been extended on the Ultra line.
  • Update 10-2-2007: My dear husband is experiencing a learning curve with these plates. He is not sure he likes square plates and bowls and he is not sure he likes the raised rays on the border. I believe the man has bonded to our OLD round Corelle plates. He has instructed me to KEEP the OLD ones in the cupboard. Change is not his long suit.
  • He told me the rays go against the grain when he is using toast to soak up the last of his egg yolk–some gets caught between the rays when he swoops his toast around the edge of the plate. I love my new Scandia White plates and bowls!
  • Update 11-8-2007: The final verdict is in from the man of our house. My husband hates these dishes. He will NOT use them. He doesn’t like the plates and he does not like the bowls. Period. End of discussion. So, now we have mismatched dinnerware when we eat. His and hers. I would have removed two stars, but the system will not allow it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful dishes, August 11, 2007

  • Although these corelle dishes are a bit heavier than regular corelle, they are still lighter than stoneware. The design is beautiful. I love the square mugs and unique bowls. I like Corelle because they are made in America, are reasonably priced, and very durable. I think it’s wonderful that there are now so many patterns from which to choose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Attractive and Trendy Dinnerware, June 8, 2008

  • I purchased the Scandia White dinnerware by Corelle because I have been wanting a square set for quite some time. It is lightweight but durable and has a trendy look. Great for every day use but can look very sophisticated pared with a fancy tablecloth and napkins. You can also use the square bowls and the salad plates as serving pieces for a nice presentation so everything matches. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a square set at a reasonable price. Great buy, nice quality and the Corelle warranty is an added plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple Elegance, April 25, 2008

  • I purchased the Ultra Rivage online based on the good Amazon reviews. I went to a local Corelle outlet store today and saw the Rivage in person and was not impressed. Instead the Scandia really caught my eye. It’s simple, elegant, and feels substantial. I highly recommend the Ultra line. The Scandia collection looks like it could be something from Crate and Barrel.

5.0 out of 5 stars plain but classy, September 22, 2008

  • Even though I’m not a foodie I’m kind of a dish junkie and right now have plates in 4 different patterns. I reach for these a lot. When looking at a new pattern I always try to picture the plate covered in half-eaten spaghetti. Try it, it eliminates a lot of the more out-there designs that only look good before any food is served. Food always looks okay served on plain white plates while the square shape and fluted edges add some pizazz. The mugs are a decent size for morning coffee. Dried food stuck in the edges could be a pain to hand wash but I put these in the dishwasher and they come out spotless. The quality, shine and heft are comparable to brands that cost a LOT more so Scandia ultra is a real bargain.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful But Difficult To Clean, December 25, 2007
  • I have had different patterns of Corelle over the years, and this material is different - it is heavier and has a much more luxurious feel. The big surprise is how difficult it is to handwash them. Oil seems to stick to the fluted sides of the plates like glue, and I have to add extra soap and scrub extra hard to get it off. The cups are the most difficult to clean - all of them have coffee stains on the inside that I cannot remove. I don’t know if they will fare any better in a dishwasher - someone else will have to comment on that. I am now in the market to purchase another set of Corelle in the traditional material. Not as nice or as luxurious, but certainly less stressful.

2.0 out of 5 stars Manufacturing problems, November 30, 2007

  • I bought 2 sets for me, but both came with different manufacturing problems… wrinkles on the borders… color differences on the edge… I love Corelle and still think is a good product, but dont expect it to be perfect. I am thinking about waiting a couple more months and try to buy them again to see if they improved the manufacturing process.
