Amazon.com Review
Displaying the latest in contemporary aesthetics, Corelle’s Square Round line consists of square plates and bowls with rounded corners, delineated round centers, and subtly lifted rims. The Simple Lines pattern presents a white background minimally graced by several swooping thin lines of black. The effect is at once stark yet artistically appealing, creating a dinnerware pattern that can be used for everyday, year-round dining or saved for special occasion entertaining.

Like all Corelle dinnerware, Simple Lines is made of laminated layers of glass that produce incredible strength while being very lightweight, thin, and stackable. Moreover, because the enamel pigments are fired onto the dinnerware, the design won’t fade or scratch off over time. This 16-piece set is comprised of four of each of the following: 10-1/4-inch dinner plate, 8-3/4-inch lunch plate, 22-ounce cereal or soup bowl, and 12-ounce porcelain mug. While sudden changes in temperature should be avoided, Corelle Square Round is safe for the microwave, oven, and dishwasher, and is covered by a 3-year warranty against chips and breakage. –Ann Bieri

5.0 out of 5 stars Corelle is the best!, May 8, 2007

  • I bought this to replace a set of Corelle dinnerware we’ve had over 15 years. The old set start getting gray and streaky as if the years of utensils against the surface in daily use finally took a toll. When I decided to replace that set, I had no doubt that it would be with another set of Corelle. It is lightweight, dishwasher and microwave safe, is thin enough to not stack too high in the cabinet, and it stays nice looking even with heavy use. This set arrived well packed, the Corelle box and bubble packing inside another box, and everything was intact. The plates are really big! We will probably end up using the lunch plates as dinner plates sometimes. The bowls also have a very large capacity, easily two cups. One main difference between this set and my old one is the coffee cups are not the same material as the dishes… they used to be made of the same ‘vitrelle’ and now are porcelain. I like the new ones better; they have a little more heft and keep my coffee warmer longer, and they are more elegant than our regular old unmatched mugs. I love the squared shape of all the pieces, even the cups are a bit square. Perhaps it is because of the shape that the pieces all seem to have so much capacity. I like this pattern, Simple Lines, because it is a simple contemporary desigh. If I have one complaint it would be that the lines don’t look solid and dark on the plates; in places the lines look like chalk stripes.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have had this pattern for over a year, August 16, 2007

  • I really liked this pattern when it came out and immediately bought 2 sets. I am here to buy another (always compare prices). I had Corelle growing up and liked the lightweight nature of it and the durability. However, the patterns were not so hot for a while. The newer patterns are great! I gave my old dishes to a college-bound relative when I got these. It was just too hard on my hands lifting 4 stacked stoneware plates from the diswasher to the cupboard.  FYI, and stoneware/porcelain/ceramic dishes with chips should be discarded as dirt/bacteria can get into the unglazed part and you can’t get it out. I don’t like taking chances with my family’s safety. I have never chipped a Corelle dish. My mother did drop one at walmart and it shattered into about a zillion shards, so it is possible. The only bummer about this set is that the mugs ARE NOT corelle glass. They match but are ceramic. My old set had corelle mugs. The paint does look slightly different as it is on a different surface. The bowls also only have a black rim, too bad the lines aren’t on them. I do see they have added some companion pieces. Still waiting for smaller dessert/salad plates to match this set. Nice everyday dishes that can take rough handling of a family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice, December 6, 2006

  • We acquired four sets and are thrilled with the looks, the durability, the light weight, the feel of the material and the ease of cleaning - hands down the best (and the best looking) day to day set we ever had!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just love these …….., May 28, 2007

  • They are everything all the reviewers have said, but they also make your food look just beautiful when plating. So artistic! I use to use a lot of tupperware or just paper plates because its just me and my husband. Since getting these I pull them out all the time just because they look so good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Perfect, December 15, 2007

  • The set looks even better in real life. The plates, the bowls, the mugs also just the perfect size. The pattern is beautiful. Easy to clean, easy to stack. No cons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stylish and Durable Dishes, January 13, 2008

  • This is the coolest set of dishes I’ve ever owned! They are lightweight but durable, and very stylish. I get compliments on them all the time, and most people can’t believe they are Corelle! The square shape and modern design make them fun, and the strength of Corelle make them timeless. They seem a little light, but once you start washing them you realize that weight doesn’t matter– these babies hold up strong. The dinner plates are REALLY big and we end up only using the lunch plates. Instead of buying two 16-piece sets, I bought one set and then just bought individual lunch plates and bowls to add to the collection because I didn’t want any more of the dinner plates. You really can’t go wrong with this set, as long as they fit your style!

5.0 out of 5 stars Corelle fan, August 7, 2007

  • Since I was introduced to Corelle by my mom, I haven’t looked back. When I set up house, Corelle was the way to go. Unfortunately, they didn’t have very many “cool” designs when I was shopping. Corelle has one of those everyday dishes that don’t scratch, can be put in dishwasher, used roughly… I can’t get enough of Corelle. So when someone got married, this was the perfect choice for them. Of course, the square with black lines gives it that extra oomph to go from everyday to partyware. The design was smooth, sleek, and classy. The quality was the same as Corelle always has. I was very pleased with this product, and plan on giving this as a staple wedding gift.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, May 6, 2008

  • The quality of these dishes is poor, and I suspect the fault lies with the manufacturer. The rims of some of the plates are flawed; it looks like the glass coating melted along one side on some of them and the pattern doesn’t follow over the edge on others. I bought them online because when I went to the store to purchase them there were cups missing from a shrink-wrapped box, something that no doubt happened at the manufacturer’s. The pattern is pretty but for the price I would have expected better.

1.0 out of 5 stars poorly packed - dishes broken, June 25, 2008

  • I received the simple lines 16 piece dinnerware set. When I picked up the box, I heard glass strewn about. I opened the first box, and it was much bigger than the dish-box, and it moved very freely inside the bigger box. When I opened the box, 3 of the middle-sized plates were broken. I’ve been too busy to really deal with it, and I want to order another set, and at that time, I would have requested 3 replacement middle-sized plates. Thank you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dishes arrived damaged, December 8, 2006

  • I received the set in the mail, and immediately noticed that the contents inside were damaged. I returned the item to Amazon, who issued a prompt refund. It appears that the persons handling these fragile items aren’t very cautious, so I would advise against buying this. Amazon was great with a prompt refund, though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Correlle Simple Lines Dinnerware from Amazon, November 4, 2006

  • I have never received this product. It has been sent to me in 4 separate shipments over the past 3 months and has never arrived. Tracking the items indicates that the USPS receives it damaged and returns it to Amazon. It’s been very disappointing, inasmuch as I asked my friends to give me Amazon gift certificates for my birthday, so that I could buy it from Amazon. It’s now carried by Target, and I could buy it there, but Amazon won’t turn my gift certificates into cash, so that I could use the cash to buy the items instead of waiting for it to arrive at my local post office damaged again. I have re-ordered using my gift using my certificates again. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
