- I have had this set of dishes for 15 years now. They have been used consistently for the last 15 years. Aside from one broken plate which I dropped onto a ceramic tile floor (which I easily replaced at their outlet store), the whole original set is intact. They have never stained, chipped, cracked or scratched. There are many extras that could be purchased that match. I have a slow cooker (which has yellowed over the years), salt and pepper shakers, 2 large serving plates and 2 large serving bowls. At times I have also had the matching cutting board. The pattern is beautiful, oddly enough I never tired of it. It has moved with me to 3 different homes, and it always seemed to work well with the decor in each of them. If I ever did tire of this set, I wouldn’t even consider buying anything other then Corelle.
- It is now July, 2007, and I am editing this to add that I did finally give up this set of Corelle. We moved once again, and the new kitchen and dining room are done in burgundy, dark blue and dark green-so I purchased a set of plain beige Corelle of course-and the people who purchased my previous home are now enjoying the shadow iris set they asked me to leave when I mentioned to our real estate agent I was getting rid of it….I wouldn’t be surprised if they get another 15 years of constant use out of this set….
- Well all I can say is ….it’s pretty neat . Simple Sober design , but still looks so cool . Good price at Amazon , as other places I checked , its about 10$ more + shipping . Here at Amazon , its just 2.99$ for shipping ( even if you have Amazon prime) which is cool , cos it’s pretty heavy - 13 pounds . Ordered 2 , came in nicely packed . I see that they are back in stock again …..so going for one more . Happy Shopping …..and ……Happy Holidays
- Although Corelle is not made by Corning anymore they still seem to be of the same quality, durability and light weight that they’ve always been known for. All of Corning’s housewares, such as Corningware, PYREX and Visions were divested about ten years ago but are still sold under their original name. I’ve read conflicting reports about the quality of some products like Pyrex since they’ve been spun off and I think lots of Corningware is just imported stoneware anymore. These are still made in the U.S.A. except for the mugs which for some reason are actually stoneware but seem very similar to the same glass the plates are made of, again very light weight. It’s nice to still be able to buy original American made dinnerware now that Phaltzcraft and Oneida have recently stopped production and simply have products supplied to them that they just put their name on. Companies like Faberware and Revere had gone the same route some time ago so the stuff your grandmother had for 40 yrs is not what your getting today.
- Amazon had the best price by far, however when you opt for the free shipping keep in mind it could take a few weeks to arrive. I ordered 2 sets at this price and one did come completely smashed due to very poor packaging but they paid to have them returned and sent out a new set with 2 day delivery no problem, so I can’t complain.
- We have been using the set I got during my bridal shower the past 5 years and thought it was time to add on to the collection for when extended family visits us. My order from Amazon came in fast and in great condition. I am so happy that I am thinking of ordering another set and maybe the matching sugar and creamer set too.
- We already have Corelle dishes (plain white) but wanted to add some color to our dish set. Therefore, we purchased these plates. However, (3) things were not as expected:1) They are more “green” than the photos showed. We did not care for that, liking the “Blue” highlights better. 2) These plates have a ‘depression’ in the center - almost like shallow bowls with large rims. I expected them to have the same shape as our existing Corelle - not so. If you look for the indent, it can be seen in the photos. As we were not expecting anything different in shape from what we have, I did not pay close attention to this. 3) One of the small plates had paint on the back side - as if it had been placed on another plate before the paint had dried on the other plate. We have not found a way to remove this paint.
- Taken all together, we should have returned these to Amazon but we had destroyed the packaging before realizing that we should return them…We have been using them since we received them and they work fine. The service from Amazon was Very fast! Within (2) days, I think.
- Quality was not what I expected from Corelle. Three of the dinner plates had uneven paint and paint loss on trim. Two of those have splotches of green paint on the underside of the plates. Thankfully after washing in the dishwasher, there was no change. Two of the cereal/soup bowls have stains on the inside bottoms. One stain is about quarter size and a slight rusty color. The other stain is about 2 3/4 inch light gray color. These two occurred after washing in dishwasher. They are usable.
